What is a house concert?
20-40 nice music lovers (your friends) come to your home for an evening of up-close and personal time with a good musician or musicians. Often you already know the audience and if not, you will make some new friends. A donation of $15 – $20 is collected per audience member with the money going to the artist. Often concert hosts have a potluck beforehand. It can be a very fun party. There is a website called concertsinyourhome.com that will explain the process in great detail.
Why my solo show works well in this format
I usually play two 45 minute sets with a 20 minute break in between. My show is quite different from the more common folksinger with a guitar, not that there’s anything wrong with that style. I make a lot of music for one person by using various gadgets. I tell some funny stories. I bring my own PA system. Even with the PA I am not overly loud.
